SEATTLE While parents across the state work to get COVID-19 vaccines for their teenagers, the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is asking people to be patient as they wait for further guidance.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanded the emergency use authorization for Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine for kids between the ages of 12 and 15 this week. But the DOH is waiting for similar guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup before giving their blessing to local providers to start administering doses to teens.

US investigators identify organic produce as possible E. coli outbreak source
Organic produce
could possibly be behind an E. Coli O157 outbreak that has affected children in Washington’s Seattle-King County area. Seven patients were reported between April 22 and May 1, says Seattle-King County Public Health.
Six of the children have been so sick they had to be admitted to hospitals. This includes two children who developed a potentially life-threatening type of kidney complication called hemolytic uremic syndrome. Both are recovering.
“Our investigation is ongoing. We have identified multiple types of fresh produce, mostly organic, in common among the majority of cases but cannot yet rule out other possibilities,” the health department reported in its outbreak update. “Public Health is conducting interviews with cases and their parents/guardians to help identify any common exposures. Seattle partners with businesses to offer COVID-19 vaccine incentives
The city of Seattle is partnering with local businesses to offer people free stuff in exchange for receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.
Seattle Fire has already partnered with Dick s Drive-In to offer free cheeseburgers for those who show up for their vaccine at the pop-up clinic there. Husky s Deli in West Seattle will offer its popular ice cream to the first 50 people who get their vaccine at the pop-up clinic this Saturday.
