Immune system has long-term defenses after mild Covid-19

Upon infection, short-lived immune cells are generated quickly to secrete an early wave of protective antibodies. As the immune cells die out, antibody levels decline. But a pool of these immune cells, called long-lived plasma cells, is held in reserve after infection. Most of them migrate to the bone marrow, explained coauthor Ali Ellebedy of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

And the true benefits of time off, downtime, and rest. IT BEGINS AT 4:00 A.M. on a Saturday, a throbbing and unceasing pain behind my left temple. I try to go back to sleep but can’t the second missed clue and around 6:00 A.M. I face another day of weekend work. It’s the fall of 2020 and I’m at risk of losing my job at ESPN. I should find solace in all the skills I’ve developed to support my wife, Sonya; our three kids; and my mother-in-law, who moved in when she retired. I don’t.

Delaying lung cancer surgery associated with higher risk of recurrence, death

E-Mail Swiftness is essential when treating lung cancer, the second most common type of cancer in the U.S. and the country s leading cause of cancer deaths. For patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer, surgical removal of a tumor-infested lung or of a smaller lung section may be the only treatment needed. However, some patients postpone surgery while seeking second opinions, because of economic or social factors, or for personal reasons such as waiting until after a child s wedding or a planned vacation. Worries about contracting COVID-19 in a clinical setting also have led to delays. But a new study by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis found that delaying lung cancer surgery for more than 12 weeks from the date of diagnosis with a CT scan is associated with a higher risk of recurrence and death.
