Investing In Research To Grow Our Agriculture Sector

VIC Premier A Victorian Government funding boost will back La Trobe University to develop cutting-edge food and agriculture research for the benefit of industry now and in the future. Minister for Agriculture Mary-Anne Thomas was at La Trobe University’s Bundoora campus today to announce $10 million in funding for two projects to improve agriculture and food capabilities. The Agriculture Production Platform project, which will receive $3.5 million from the Government, will expand the University’s research glasshouses and upgrade equipment with the installation of cutting-edge technology. The expanded glasshouses will include new growth facilities and controlled environment pods, which will accelerate the development of new and improved plant varieties. It will create a unique facility that will enable Victorian scientists to develop medicinal agriculture innovations and have the best tools available for research.

Monash University awarded more than $8 million to support family violence survivors back into work

Monash University Monash University has been awarded $8.67 million from the State Government for critical research, the creation of workforce pathways and better legal support for family violence victim-survivors. The Safe and Equal @ Work and Access to Justice programs were announced today by The Hon. Gayle Tierney, Minister for Higher Education, via the State Government’s $350 million Victorian Higher Education State Investment Fund (VHESIF). Monash’s Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Law are the first recipients of funding from VHESIF at Monash, for the two complementary outputs. The Faculty of Arts’ Safe and Equal @ Work program will address training and job creation for family violence victim-survivors, women’s homelessness and enhance safety overall.

National-First Indigenous Theology Course At New Centre

VIC Premier First Nations people will be at the heart of theological training at a new Indigenous Studies Centre, funded by the Andrews Labor Government. It will be housed at the heritage-listed monastery at the University of Divinity St Paschal’s precinct, which will undergo an $877,700 refurbishment. The Indigenous Studies Centre is being developed in collaboration with Indigenous staff and, in an Australian first, will feature theology courses taught by Indigenous people using Indigenous perspectives and Indigenous teaching methods. Students of all backgrounds can enrol in programs exploring theology from Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and world Indigenous perspectives. Trawloolway woman Naomi Wolfe is Academic Dean of the University of Divinity’s Indigenous Studies program and said the collaborative learning approach would break-down cultural stereotypes and barriers.
