Loyalist College’s Applied Research Centre has received its first two Mitacs Accelerate funding awards totalling $30,000 to support an applied research project with apollogreen, a global, cannabis starter-plant supplier.
Mitacs is a not-for-profit organization that receives federal and provincial funding to foster growth and innovation in Canada by solving business challenges with research solutions from academic institutions.

In an announcement Tuesday, Loyalist College said the research project is aiming to optimize cannabis cloning in concert with apollogreen’s more than 600 cannabis strains.
Loyalist College will be hosting a virtual open house on Saturday, March 2oth.
There will be over 50 webinars and virtual campus tours happening from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Loyalist College has announced some updates as the Quinte region continues to be in the green-zone under the COVID-19 Response Framework.
In a statement posted on their website, the College says that they continue to encourage students and staff to work remotely as much as possible.
Only essential staff and students that have to come for essential roles, in-person labs or exams are on campus.
Here are some additional changes that Loyalist College President and CEO, Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan announced this week.
“Now that the Province has returned to the colour coded regional COVID-19 Response Framework: Keeping Ontario Safe, I wanted to provide an update on campus safety procedures.
