Data unavailable on land, water area in country

Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury yesterday told parliament that there is no specific data on the size of land and water portions in Bangladesh. No specific information was found regarding the size of water and land parts of the country from Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics or any other government organisations, the minister said in reply to a tabled question from ruling Awami League MP M Abdul Latif.
He said for the welfare of the people of the country, the land ministry and other related ministries are working round the clock for preserving arable land, forests and waterbodies.
List of FFs to be published by February: Mozammel

Mozammel Haque today said the list of freedom fighters (FFs) would be
published in the first week of February.
“The list of freedom fighters would be published in the first week
of February and 30 days will be given where it will be seen whether
anyone has any objection or not in this regard,” he said.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of
a new three-storey building of Gazipur City Corporation’s Number 38
Kaliakair Government Primary School here.

Cabinet Committee meeting on golden jubilee of independence held

DHAKA, Dec 3, 2020 (BSS) – The first meeting of Cabinet Committee was held today to celebrate the golden jubilee of the country’s independence in a colorful and befitting manner.
The meeting was held at the conference room of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs in the capital this afternoon with Liberation War Affairs Minister and committee chairman AKM Mozammel Haque in the chair, a ministry press release said.
At a press briefing after the meeting, Mozammel Haque revealed the detailed plan of the golden jubilee celebration of the country’s independence.
He said various programmes would be taken throughout the year with a view to spreading the spirit of the Liberation War among the new generation and the grassroots.
She was 86.
Rabeya started her writing career crossing the barriers of patriarchal society and when women were almost confined to their homes.
The novelist died at her Banani residence around 5:00pm after suffering a cardiac arrest, said her family. She is survived by two daughters and two sons and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn her death.
In her career spanning almost six decades, Rabeya had shown her capacities in short stories, essays, religious history, and travelogues. And she became an inspiration for many budding writers, including females.
Rabeya wrote over 50 novels and more than 400 short stories.
She received Ekushey Padak in 1993 and Independence Day Award in 2017, the two most prestigious and highest civilian awards of the Bangladesh government, for her contributions to literature.
Condolences pour in for Mahila Parishad President Ayesha Khanam

DHAKA, Jan 02, 2021, (BSS) – Tributes and condolences continue to pour in for prominent women leader and Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) President, Valiant Freedom Fighter Ayesha Khanam, who passed away today at a city hospital at the age of 74.
Immediately after her demise, people from all walks of life as well as different political parties and leaders expressed their shock and sent condolences.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at her death, said a press release issued here.
A number of cabinet members also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the demise of the BMP President.
