A convicted sex offender is back in jail in Moscow on new rape charges.
23-year-old Austin Johnson is charged with 2 counts of rape when the victim is under 16 and the perpetrator is over 18 years old. Latah County Second District Court documents show that Moscow Police believe that Johnson raped a 14-year-old girl twice in Latah County in May of last year. Johnson was living in LaCrosse at the time.
The investigation led to Johnson being charged with 2 counts of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes in Whitman County Superior Court in Washington. Johnson was recently arrested on a warrant. He is set to have his preliminary hearing in Latah County Second District Court in Moscow later this month.
A Georgia man convicted of trying to extort nude photos from a Washington State University student is going to prison.
24-year-old Atlanta Metro area man Jordan Bowen previously pleaded guilty to 2nd degree extortion with sexual motivation in Whitman County Superior Court. Court Commissioner Doug Robinson sentenced Bowen on Friday to 15 months in prison, 3 years of probation and ordered him to register as a sex offender.
Bowen had no connection to the victim before obtaining nude images of her. He created 2 fake identities and contacted the woman through social media. Bowen threatened to send the images to her friends and family unless she sent him more nude photos.
