Australiaâs national airline says demand for domestic travel within Queensland has soared since the closure of international borders.

With QantasLink launching direct flights from Brisbane to the town of Proserpine (on the Whitsunday Coast) after a seven-year hiatus, holidaymakers in Australiaâs Sunshine State will soon have more travel options to the world-famous Whitsunday Islands.
From September 17, 2021, QantasLink will operate up to seven weekly return flights between Proserpine and Brisbane with its 74-seat Q400 turboprop aircraft, adding more than 1,000 seats on the route each week. Between Qantas, QantasLink and Jetstar, the Group has now launched more than 45 new routes since the beginning of the pandemic, around half of which are into Queensland.

Whitsunday tourism operators gearing up for a bumper winter season have been dealt another blow with the announcement of the latest Victorian Covid-19 lockdown.
Island resorts have been inundated with phone calls in the hours since the announcement, with Hamilton Island’s reservations line informing callers of “unusually high call volumes and long wait times” as a result of the new interstate travel restrictions.
Hamilton Island staff were unable to comment this afternoon, but Daydream Island and Long Island accommodation providers reported receiving multiple calls from Victorians seeking to either cancel or change their reservations.
Daydream Island is understood to have received 10 booking change requests within hours of the Queensland’s border closure.

A new brewery and taphouse aims to become the social hub for Cannonvale locals, promising a family friendly atmosphere and a selection of locally made beers to suit anyone’s taste.
Ballistic Whitsundays officially opened its doors on Friday and the community was invited to enjoy its wide range of exclusive craft brews, buzzing beer garden, and a bite to eat from the gourmet food truck.
Behind the venture is Brisbane businessman David Kitchen, who runs several successful tap houses along the east coast, from Brisbane’s West End to Bundaberg.
Mr Kitchen said an opportunity opened up in the Whitsundays last year when COVID forced local craft beer enthusiast Dan Mcleod, of Denmans Beer Cafe, to abandon plans to open Whitsunday Island Brewing at the Cannonvale location.
