The provincial government has announced the pending construction of a new $30 million Catholic high school in Windsor.
The province said Friday it has given the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board approval to proceed to tender for a new Catholic Central Secondary School.

“This is a major milestone for this project and we’re very eager to move on to the next step of selecting a contractor to build this wonderful new school for our community,” said WECDSB Director of Education Terry Lyons.

A recently formed local group designed to support Black youth and their parents better navigate the education system and achieve their life goals has secured full funding for the next three years.
Family Fuse, launched last August, received $253,500 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Youth Opportunities Fund. The non-profit group is also backed by W.E.S.T. (Women’s Enterprise Skills Training Inc.) of Windsor.

The goal is to assist, over the next few years, at least 75 local families of Black youth through a combination of community partnerships, workshops and one-one-one support as they advance through the school system starting in junior kindergarten right up to working through university or college.
Deadline extended for Windsor-Essex elementary students learning model changes
Melanie Borrelli Alana Hadadean Both the public and Catholic school boards in Windsor-Essex have extended the deadline to request a change in elementary students’ current learning model. The Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 4 p.m. deadline continues to apply for GECDSB secondary students, while the extension applies to both high school and elementary WECDSB students. “Hopefully that will make people feel a little bit more comfortable,” said Erin Kelly, WECDSB director of education. “Though I will say there will be no good time to make change in this chaotic sort of challenging time. We are trying to be responsive to parents particularly who have to think about such things such as childcare and safety.”

A cohort at a Windsor Catholic elementary school is experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak after two staff cases were confirmed.
In a news release Wednesday, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit declared an outbreak at Immaculate Conception Catholic School 12 days after the school was already closed.
