Security Operations Firm Red Canary Raises $81M To Grow R&D

Red Canary has closed an $81 million funding round to grow its sales and marketing teams and support continued platform expansion with new SaaS offerings.
The Denver-based security operations vendor said the Series C funding will support continued investment in both product and team expansion as Red Canary works to fulfill rapidly growing customer demand. The round was led by global growth equity investor Summit Partners, and brings Red Canary to more than $125 million of outside funding raised since being founded eight years ago.

Proofpoint Sues Facebook Over Use Of Lookalike Domains

Proofpoint has sued Facebook seeking permission to keep using domain names that look like Facebook and Instagram as part of its security awareness training exercises.
The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based email security vendor was hit Jan. 25 with a decision from an arbitrator ordering the transfer of five lookalike domain names from Proofpoint to Facebook within ten business days. The decision came in response to a complaint Facebook filed Nov. 30 with an administrative body, where the social media giant alleged that Proofpoint registered and used the domain names in bad faith.

SolarWinds MSP will need to design, build and stand up its own IT environment before launching this spring as an independent, publicly traded company called N-able.
The Durham, N.C.-based remote monitoring and management (RMM) provider will be rolling out new IT, accounting and email systems from scratch just months after Russian hackers attacked the SolarWinds Orion network monitoring platform. Although no SolarWinds MSP tools were compromised, SolarWinds MSP President John Pagliuca said his team will benefit from the knowledge SolarWinds has amassed in recent weeks.
MSSP Herjavec Group To Be Purchased By Apax Partners

Apax Partners has agreed to buy a majority stake in Herjavec Group to accelerate international expansion and advance the company’s identity and security management platforms.
The Toronto-based managed security service provider, No. 100 on the 2020 CRN Solution Provider 500, said being acquired by Apax Partners will give Herjavec Group more threat and identity resources and bolster the company’s identity and Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR) offerings. Founder and “Shark Tank” star Robert Herjavec will remain a significant stakeholder and CEO.
