WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)- Some much-needed rain this week has lowered wildfire risk in the region.
The entire state of Minnesota is classified as low risk for wildfire, according to a recent update from the DNR. A permit is still required for larger burns in the Winona region.
Dry conditions kept fire crews busy this week. On Tuesday, the Winona Fire Department extinguished two fires at the same time.
Also, this week, Rollingstone and Altura Fire Departments extinguished a wild-area fire. State fire officials have reported over 500 wildfires and say more than 20,000 acres of land have burned since March 1.
