Santa Fe woman guilty of murdering neighbor

Copyright © 2021 Albuquerque Journal SANTA FE – After a full day of deliberation on Friday, a Santa Fe jury found a 65-year-old woman guilty of second-degree murder and negligent use of a firearm in the death of a teenage neighbor in September 2019. Beverly Melendez called 911 after the incident and told dispatchers there was potentially a human sacrifice going on in her neighbor’s yard on Hopewell Street. She also complained of loud parties and a generator at the home she said kept her up at night. And while she admitted owning a rifle and shooting it a few days earlier, she said she did not recall shooting it that night.

(Eddie Moore/Journal) SANTA FE The state Department of Health reported just 155 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, well below the state’s daily target of 210 cases or fewer. The share of people 16 and older who are fully vaccinated climbed to just under 53%, pushing the state closer to its goal of 60%, the level that health officials say will trigger the lifting of capacity restrictions on businesses.

I Got to See Forrest Fenn s Treasure with My Own Eyes

For a decade, Forrest Fenn had lived as creator, promoter, steward, and defender of perhaps the most extraordinary treasure hunt America had ever known. He lived to see its conclusion. And then, barely three months after the hunt he had brought into the world had ended, Fenn was gone. On the morning of September 7, 2020, Fenn was found unconscious in his study, having fallen, according to the police report. He was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, then released to the care of his family, who returned him to his home. There he died later that same day, never having regained consciousness. The first responders who arrived on the scene that morning were initially responding to a cardiac-arrest call, indicating Fenn may have had a heart attack that precipitated his fall.

State officials say large-scale vaccination clinics are likely to be replaced by smaller, more targeted events. (Eddie Moore/Journal) Copyright © 2021 Albuquerque Journal SANTA FE – More than 1 million New Mexicans have now received at least one vaccine dose – a significant milestone as the state pushes to vaccinate 60% of its adults against COVID-19 by the end of June. It means the state would reach the target if every person who’s already received one shot of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine returns for their second dose. The third vaccine, Johnson & Johnson, requires only one shot.
