AN 82-year-old woman died after she “unexpectedly deteriorated” following surgery, an inquest opening heard. Wendy Rosalind Freemantle was admitted to Southampton General Hospital from her home in Wilton Road, Salisbury. An inquest into her death opened at Winchester Coroner’s Court heard that Mrs Freemantle was admitted on September 24 with low blood pressure, shortness of breath and heart issues. She underwent surgery on September 28, but she deteriorated and died on October 14. A post mortem carried out by pathologist Dr Eleanor Jaynes gave a cause of death as right coronary artery rupture and right coronary artery thrombosis, along with severe calcific coronary artery atherosclerosis – a build-up of calcium in the arteries.
