The city s Business Improvement District (BID) has announced it will host a Covid-safe Otter Trail. Every participating shop and business will display a key worker otter in its window and a brightly coloured sticker showing a QR code. Participants can download a map from the BID s website from Friday May 21 2021 to use to help them explore the city centre. Sarah Davis, Business Improvement District Manager at the BID said: We are so pleased and proud to be able to deliver this trail that celebrates the extraordinary lengths that key workers have gone to over the past year as well as raising funds for such an important new local charity.
IT WAS called ‘I Love Winchester Hospice’ – and people clearly took a charity event to their hearts as their support helped fundraisers to smash a £25,000 goal. ‘I Love Winchester Hospice’ took place on Friday, February 5 – and the Winchester Hospice fundraising team are delighted that donors and sponsors made sure the online auction and entertainment event was a resounding success. Thirty lots were up for grabs and the event, which more than 200 people logged on to, also featured cocktail and Valentine breakfast-making sessions and music from local singer Abi Clements. Emmy award-winning CBS radio and TV broadcaster Liam Mayclem hosted the event from San Francisco with Winchester Hospice fundraising team members Mark Jones and Sabrina Marsden anchoring the Winchester end of the Zoom event from Chesil House.
A GROUP of more than 240 people finished 2020 with their hearts pumping whilst raising £11k for Winchester charities. Participants in the second annual Tinathon challenge ran, swam, cycled, worked out and power walked their way through December. They committed to exercising for half an hour every day, including Christmas Day, and paid a fine if they failed. The Tinathon was initiated in 2019 as a tribute to Tina Jury, a popular local marathon runner who lost her life to cancer. It was organised by local PR Consultant Miranda Rock Smith, who was supported by PT Heather Terry and a group of local fitness coaches.
