The Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd (Aerothai) said on Thursday it has complied with relief measures for airlines affected by Covid-19 under a tight budget. It is now in need of loans to boost liquidity.
The move came after seven airlines in the Airlines Association of Thailand (AAT) urged the government to address the impacts on the aviation industry of the latest lockdown.
Earlier, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) issued a ban on commercial domestic flights to destinations in provinces hardest-hit by Covid-19, the so-called dark red zones.

Over 20,000 employees from seven airlines are on the verge of losing their jobs if the ban imposed on domestic flights is prolonged to three months without help from the long-awaited 5-billion-baht soft loan from the government, according to the Airlines Association of Thailand (AAT).
AAT president, Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, said the aviation industry in Thailand is facing a critical downturn since the pandemic last year with passenger numbers decreasing by 64.7% in 2020. However, the current situation is ravaging the cash flow of all airlines as since Wednesday they are unable to serve domestic flights from and to dark red zones.

Thai AirAsia views the forced lockdown as jeopardising its financial status as the aviation industry has been struggling without government support for over a year as it questioned the ability of the government to collect tax when large businesses have been left to die.
Tassapon Bijleveld, executive chairman of Asia Aviation (AAV), the largest shareholder of Thai AirAsia (TAA), said liquidity is at a critical stage and it has had to seek emergency borrowing to help pay payroll this month.
