GUWAHATI: Flight services connecting western Assam with the rest of the country resumed after a long gap of nearly four decades.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI), in its endeavour to link under-served and unserved airports through Regional Connectivity Scheme routes, has started its regular flight services at Rupsi Airport in Dhubri district, close to the Bangladesh border. The first commercial flight of Flybig airline landed at 12.07 pm in Rupsi airport. Altogether 24 passengers arrived from Guwahati on the inaugural flight in Rupsi. Later, the flight departed for Kolkata around 12.40 pm.
The AAI has re-developed the World War-II airstrip of Assam at an estimated cost of Rs 69 crore. The foundation stone for the re-development project was laid by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal in February 2019. The British-era Rupsi airport, originally constructed during World War II to supply arms, manpower and ammunition to the Allied forces.
Andhra Pradesh approves viability gap funding for TruJet
Regional carrier TruJet has secured Andhra Pradesh Government nod for viability gap funding (VGF) to continue its Chennai- Kadapa-Vijayawada and Vijayawada-Kadapa-Chennai routes for one more year starting from May 1, 2021, reports Hindu BusinessLine.
The State Cabinet approved a move to provide about INR 20 crore per year as VGF by the State government.
An MoU was signed between Government of Andhra Pradesh, Airports Authority of India and the Ministry of Civil Aviation in 2016 for implementation of Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS). Following this, Trujet Airlines is operating at Kadapa Airport.

The direct flight service between Rupsi Airport to Guwahati and Kolkata is all set to begin on May 8, reports Mukesh KR Singh in NorthEast Now.
As per available information, the newly-launched domestic airlines âFlybigâ will start its operation in the Northeast region from May 8 and initially, the flight will connect Rupsi, Guwahati and Kolkata Airports. And in due course, other destinations of the Northeast will be covered.
On Wednesday, Flybig Airlines conducted a successful trial of its flight at Rupsi Airport.
Kokrajhar Police on its social media wrote: âCloud is Clear-Long wait is Over; the Airport is going to be operational soon.â
COVID-19: AAI, Goa Airport geared up for uninterrupted delivery of medical essentials ANI | Updated: May 07, 2021 11:30 IST
New Delhi [India], May 7 (ANI): Airports Authority of India, Goa International Airport and its frontline corona warriors are geared up to combat COVID-19 by facilitating the seamless delivery of medical essentials, said the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Friday.
During the first phase of the pandemic, Goa International Airport catered to eight LifeLine Udan flights intended to transport essential medical cargo to remote parts of the country amid the nationwide lockdown with a total inbound cargo of 2.15MT and outbound cargo of 3.96 MT.
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Goa Airport also handled three lots of COVID-19 vaccine for the state of Goa and one lot for the neighbouring state Karnataka in the months of January and February 2021.
