NBAA said its three-day virtual Flight Operations Conference that concluded on Thursday “broke new ground in providing access to highly compelling speakers, brand-name industry exhibitors and networking opportunities.” The association produced the conference in collaboration with its Schedulers & Dispatchers Committee (SDC) and International Operators Committee (IOC), each of which have held separate in-person events prior to the pandemic. Overall, NBAA said exhibitors were pleased with business connections at the conference, while attendees were drawn by the offered content and the virtual exhibit floor.

During the National Business Aviation Association s virtual Flight Operations Conference on February 23, flight department managers and medical experts shared information about operating safely during the COVID-19 pandemic and how vaccines may help toward a return to normal operations. The “Post COVID-19: Best Practices for Crewmembers” webinar featured Brian Abrahamson, supervisor of operations and scheduling for Merck’s flight department; Jared Taylor, a fixed-wing pilot and safety manager at Johnson & Johnson; Alexander Smith, MedAire director of nursing and health screening products; and Dr. Paulo Alves, MedAire global medical director.

SAF availability is poised to grow exponentially over the next five years as the number of producers expands and the number of pathways to develop it nearly doubles. In addition, progress is being made not only to increase its ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but on research to increase the amount used in the fuel blend, which is now a 50/50 mix.
Noting the “opportunity is large,” a senior leader on the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) front outlined a vision where production of SAF can grow to at least one billion gallons a year by 2025, the number of pathways to develop it more than doubles, and the industry progresses toward the goal of a 100 percent sustainable option.
