At the ceremony to break ground on the National Innovation Centre (NIC) and open the Vietnam International Innovation Expo today (January 9), Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highlighted the role of innovation in the productivity, growth, and competitiveness of the country over the last 20 years. He lauded innovation as a key to the success of the socioeconomic development strategies of all countries and territories.
Vietnam has set the target to become an industrial country and improve peopleâs income by 2025, the 50th anniversary of the National Reunification Day. By 2030, the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Communist Party, Vietnam aims to be a developing country with modern industry and the status of an upper-middle-income country.

Construction of the National Innovation Centre (NIC), worth VND740 billion ($32 million), will be launched at Hoa Lac hi-tech park on the outskirts of Hanoi on January 9.

The centre, covering an area of 35 hectares, is set up under the Prime Minister’s Decision No.1269/QD-TTg to support and develop the nation’s start-ups and innovation ecosystems, contributing to the growth models based on science and technology.
It is expected to house domestic and international innovative businesses, laboratories, offices of large corporations, as well as working place of leading experts and scientists.

Multinational tech firm Intel has expressed interest in joining as a partner in the development of the pending Vietnam National Innovation Center.
The statement was made by a representative from the firm who spoke at a press conference held on Tuesday in Hanoi regarding the Vietnam International Innovation Expo 2021 and the construction of the Vietnam National Innovation Center.
According to the Intel official, the firm hopes to work with Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment to optimize cooperation mechanisms in the project.
