University of Arkansas freshman receiver Bryce Stephens adjustments from high school football could be minimal because his prep program was run much like college.
VIAN â High school wrestler and title contender Taya Huntâs biggest fan is her younger sister, Joely, a third-grader who followed the lead and has become a champion in her own division.
âWhen she first started, she was a stud,â said Taya, 16, a Cherokee Nation citizen and sophomore at Vian High School. âShe started off really good. Sheâs just mean on the mat.â
At 8 years old and 60 pounds, Joely, also a CN citizen, is already a two-time state wrestling champion in her age and weight division, taking first in the 2020 and 2021 Oklahoma Kids Wrestling Association tournaments.
The younger Hunt said she jumped onto the wrestling scene âbecause they did it,â referring to Taya and her brother Garritt, 14, the first wrestling sibling.
Kenyatta Wright made an impression that kept on giving.
An undrafted free agent linebacker from Oklahoma State, Wright caught the attention of Buffalo s defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell, and made the Bills roster in 2000. Two seasons later, Wright was a veteran free agent and Cottrell was the defensive coordinator of the Jets. I actually was in camp with Tampa Bay and got hurt and was out, Wright said. Ted called and said, I want you to come and work out for the Jets. I d really love to get you here, but you d have to obviously go through the process. Ted always believed in me. So I went and worked out and actually signed the same day.
