HARARE, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) Zimbabwe plans to rely on an immunization program already in place for other diseases to roll out COVID-19 vaccines as soon as they arrive.
The Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control with the Health Ministry, Portia Manangazira, told the Parliamentary Committee on Health that the national COVID-19 vaccine readiness assessment had already been done, state-run Herald newspaper reported Thursday.
Manangazira said the Health Ministry came up with a deployment strategy that would be used once the program starts. I am happy to say as a country we have a very robust immunization program and the ministry through the Expanded Program on Immunization has conducted a national readiness assessment for the COVID-19 vaccine and we have also come up with a Zimbabwe COVID-19 national deployment and vaccination strategy, said Manangazira.

Mass inoculations programme of Covid-19 across the country will start on February 7 with seven million vaccine doses in stock.
Besides, vaccination in limited scale among frontline health workers will begin at Kurmitola General Hospital at 3:30pm on Wednesday. About 25 health workers will be inoculated at the very beginning in the hospital.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the programme through video conference from her office.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque announced it on Tuesday after inspecting the preparations of the hospital.
As the first vaccine recipient in Bangladesh, Senior staff nurse of the hospital, Runu Berunika Costa will take the jab. She is In- Charge of the dialysis unit of Kurmitola Hospital.

The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Health (MOH) and its Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) has disclosed that Liberia has applied for the COVID-19 vaccine. Making the disclosure on Tuesday 19, 2011, MOH Communications Director Felecia Gbesioh told the
Daily Observer via mobile phone that following the submission of the Ministry’s application Liberia was granted the go-ahead.
She, however, did not state when will the vaccine arrive in the country, but clarified that application for the new vaccine has left the country and, as such, rollout plans cannot be discussed since “we don’t have vaccines in the country.”
Pakistan said Thursday it will receive half-a-million free doses of China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine by January 31.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi made the announcement at a news conference, saying his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, shared the “good news” in a phone call between the two officials.
“He told me, ‘Send your aircraft and immediately airlift this drug.’ So, this is a welcome news for us. And we will, God willing, succeed in saving many lives,” Qureshi said.
