Reconnect: SOVT Economy Summit registration opens for virtual experience May 12-14

Mon, 02/22/2021 - 9:59am tim Vermont Business Magazine Registration is now open for the Fourth Annual Southern Vermont Economy Summit at www.sovermontzone.com/summit. This three-day virtual event will be held May 12th, 13th, and 14th. The 2021 summit theme is “Reconnect”. It’s a chance to reconnect with one another, and with new ideas. The summit features workshops, networking, panel sessions, and special speakers focused on small business development, reimagining wealth-building for our communities, small scale changes to strengthen communities, and a 3-part New-to-Vermont lunch series. The Summit is anchored by “In Conversation With: Governor Scott and Lt. Governor Gray on Envisioning Vermont’s Future” followed by “The Future Talks Back,” a young professional town hall discussion on the future of our regional economy.

How UH Hilo is Addressing Hunger and Food Insecurity Food Hub Served 611 Students in the Fall of 2020 Writer: Farrah-Marie Gomes Hunger and overall food insecurity is a real concern in Hawaiʻi, and the UH Hilo community is no exception. Dr. Farrah-Marie Gomes , vice chancellor of Student Affairs, has made it one of her priorities to address this, with a Food Hub program. Gomes pursued the Food Hub idea to fill the void of Hale Paʻiʻa, or food pantry initiative that started in 2019, which had to close due to COVID-19. “While COVID may have impacted the decision to temporarily close UH Hilo s food pantry, that didn t mean that we weren t still committed to helping students to meet their basic food needs,” Gomes told Ke Kalahea.

Wed, 02/03/2021 - 5:36am tim “Let us help you help yourself”: Awardees Announced for the First-Ever Round of SoVTYPs Professional Development Grant Program Vermont Business Magazine The Professional Development Grant Program is the newest offering for Southern Vermont Young Professional members. The Southern Vermont Young Professionals (SoVTYPs) is a workforce initiative of Southeastern Vermont Economic Development Strategies (SeVEDS) and the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation (BDCC). The SoVTYP mission is to attract, retain and support Young Professionals in Southern Vermont by providing engaging opportunities and networking through social and educational events, and volunteer opportunities. The pilot grant program was developed to support YP members who are advancing, or pivoting, their career by providing financial assistance to help them achieve those career goals. The first round of applications were due December 1st, 2020, with awardees notified on December 15
