His career began in his home suburb of Wainuiomata, advancing to become regional manager of animal control for Hutt City Council and overseeing animal control services for the entire Hutt Valley and Wellington City. He established 35 dog exercise areas in Lower Hutt. Illness prevented him from completing what will be Lower Hutt’s first dedicated dog park. Mayor Campbell Barry said Dalton was an advocate for dog welfare and having a dog park named after him in Wainuiomata, where he lived, was a fitting tribute. “Les Dalton’s dedication, expertise, and his calm and rational approach to animal control was exemplary,” said Barry.

The Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center (LASCC) will temporarily close for approximately one week while employees move equipment, supplies, and animals to the new center at 410 Dugas Road.
During this time, Animal Control Officers will continue to answer dog bite and dangerous animal calls. Officers will not pick up wildlife traps and the shelter will not accept animals or conduct pet adoptions.
LASCC will close at noon on Monday, May 3, and is tentatively scheduled to reopen at its new location on Monday, May 10.
   There have been major domestic animal problems in both rural and urban areas throughout Rio Arriba County for several years.
   Rio Arriba County Animal Control has two animal control officers that respond to public request for assistance of capture, removal and other concerns that are brought to our attention. Per the Rio Arriba County Animal Control Ordinance No. 1996-02 states there will be a $10 impoundment fee when Animal Control Officers are called to locate, capture and transport an animal to the animal shelter.
   Animal Control Officers will also be implementing rabies vaccinations as per Section V of the ordinance. It is the duty of all persons owning or keeping a dog or cat or any member of the canine or feline family over the age of three (3) months, to have such animals vaccinated against rabies. Section.

ANIMAL WATCH-GM Brenda Barnette did not present the “Fear-Free Sheltering” concept at the April 13 Los Angeles Animal Services Commission meeting,
but deferred to LAAS Chief Veterinarian Dr. Jeremy Prupas to describe how impounded aggressive/dangerous dogs and cats exhibiting stress or anti-social behavior will be drugged with anti-anxiety medications to modify their reactions and speed up adoptions.
Of course, this is couched in politically correct terminology for the public and reduced to the designation, “Fear, Anxiety and Stress,” as the root cause of any unwanted or violent behavior.

Midcoast Humane, a nonprofit providing animal welfare services to 40 municipalities in the state of Maine, is launching an initiative to help keep animals in their homes with the donation of microchip scanners to Animal Control Officers (ACOs) in its service area.
The purchase of the microchip scanners was made possible by a generous grant from Loyal Biscuit Co., an independent dog and cat supply boutique with seven locations throughout Maine.
