WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - An 18-year-old man died in a wreck in Wilmington Thursday afternoon.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, Jakob Brian McLaughlin, of Wilmington, died at the scene of the wreck in the 4800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway.
Law enforcement responded to the scene at approximately 5:30 p.m.
“A 2014 Mazda 6 was traveling eastbound on MLK when it collided into the back of a slowing U-Haul truck,” the WPD said in a news release. “The driver, Jakob Brian McLaughlin, age 18, of Wilmington, died at the scene. The driver of the U-Haul truck suffered minor injuries.”
A man died after being hit by a car late Tuesday night.
The Wilmington Police Department Traffic Unit responded to a bicyclist and motor vehicle accident at the 1000 block of South College Road around 10:30 p.m.
According to a Wednesday police press release, when officers arrived on scene, they found Charles Bellamy, 57, in critical condition.
Officers attended to Bellamy until EMS arrived and transported him to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, according to the release.
According to the release, witnesses reported Bellamy rode his bike across South College Road in an area that did not have a marked crosswalk or stoplights. He was also wearing dark clothing, and due to it being nighttime, the driver of the car that hit him was unable to see him riding across the road.
