Chase Scanlan’s indefinite suspension from last week was the result of what Syracuse University’s Department of Public Safety labeled “a domestic incident a day before he was suspended by the team, according to law enforcement sources and people familiar with the case”.
Although Scanlan was not charged with a crime by DPS, Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick informed Syracuse.com that his office and City of Syracuse Police had joined the investigation, and will be meeting with the other individual (an unnamed woman) involved.

Syracuse coach John Desko said that Chase Scanlan wonât travel with the team for its game against Notre Dame on Saturday, and that it was his decision to reinstate the sophomore attack from his indefinite suspension.
In his first media appearance since the reinstatement on Monday, Desko opened with a 105-word prepared statement that said Scanlan was suspended for âviolating team rules and expectations.â
He then said he wouldnât comment further, and declined to comment on 10 follow-up questions related to Scanlan â including whether the team was informed before the reinstatement, whether players threatened to not suit up and travel to South Bend, and whether Desko and the rest of the Syracuse staff has undergone domestic violence training.
