Deborah Debbie White, 63, admired for her unshakable faith | Williamsburg Yorktown Daily

Deborah ‘Debbie’ White WILLIAMSBURG Our dearest Deborah “Debbie” White, 63, transitioned to her heavenly home Monday afternoon, March 29, 2021. Her life began Dec. 28, 1957, daughter of the late Eunice M. and Junie White of Williamsburg. Deborah was educated in Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools and graduated from Lafayette High School. She continued her education and graduated from the University of Colorado in Denver. Deborah, also known as Debbie by her many family and friends, enjoyed people and held many positions throughout the years. She worked as a dental assistant, nurse’s assistant and took classes to become an emergency room nurse. She practiced real estate and had a great affection for working with children. She owned and operated her very own daycare business and was affectionally called “Aunt Debbie” by the many people she helped and inspired along the way.

Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra partners with WJCC schools for Music in Our Schools Month

For years, the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) has partnered with WJCC public schools for their “Peter and the Wolf” program, during which music students rehearse and perform concerts with professional musicians.  But when the COVID-19 pandemic paused the program, J.B. Crowley, marketing and community outreach manager for the orchestra, had an idea.

YCSD, WJCC Public Schools propose to start 2021-22 school year before Labor day

The York County School Division and Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools propose a pre-Labor Day start date for the 2021-22 year. (WYDaily/Courtesy of York County School Division) The calendar committee for York County School Division announced during Monday night’s school board meeting that they are recommending a “pre-Labor day start” for the 2021-2022 school year.  As per the proposal, the new start date for YCSD students would be Monday, Aug. 30, 2021 with an end date of Friday, June 10, 2022. According to YCSD’s website, the new calendar proposal has several benefits, including maintaining a two-week winter break, increasing instructional time to accommodate SOL testing and providing an earlier end to the school year.
