The pilot of a single-engine Piper aircraft escaped injury late Wednesday morning when he landed on a runway at the Williamsport Regional Airport in Montoursville without the landing gear down, according to Richard Howell, the airport’s executive director.
While the aircraft sustained some damage, it did not appear to be severe, Howell said. The mishap occurred about 11:50 a.m.
No one else was on the plane, Howell said, adding that the pilot was making a routine landing, but the landing gear was not down.
With the help of a wrecker, the damaged aircraft was moved to a hangar. The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate why the landing gear was not down, Howell said.

President Trump is gearing up to possibly restart his Make America Great Again rallies as early as May. According to a source close to President Trump Wednesday, the event setup may be different but the same vendors will be used.
The idea for a MAGA rally reboot gained traction after Trump vowed to travel to Alaska to campaign against Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska). Reports also said the 45th President may want to use the rallies to communicate with supporters after he was kicked off social media platforms by Big Tech giants like Twitter.
People love their trees.
So it was distressing to many in the Montoursville area that a large swath of land near the Williamsport Regional Airport was clear cut.
Locals had little say. The project was a mandate from the Federal Aviation Administration, which is paying upward of $200,000 to have the trees along Mill Street removed.
Multiple agencies were involved and reviewed the project. Concerns about erosion near the Susquehanna River and Loyalsock Creek were addressed. Sediment control devices were put in place.
The landscape, meanwhile, should revegetate, we are told.
But nobody should expect the trees to come back they likely would just be removed anyhow.
