Winter Stakes: Bandersnatch thrives with track gallop tactics by Ray Thomas
Sydney s winter wonder Bandersnatch just keeps winning.
Bandersnatch shouldered topweight of 59ky in extremely heavy, testing track conditions but he never looked troubled racing away with the Listed $150,000 Winter Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
The talented Team Hawkes-trained sprinter is in a rich vein of form and could be on the verge of a unique feature race treble.
Bandersnatch has reeled off successive wins in the Civic Stakes and Winter Stakes with connections tempted to keep him going for the Listed $150,000 Winter Challenge (1500m) on his home track at Rosehill Gardens in two weeks – a treble that has never been achieved previously.

NSW Racing receives prize money boost Posted by: Mediality Racing+ at 4:57pm on 24/2/2021
Racing in NSW has received a shot in the arm with the announcement of a $20 million prize money injection and the addition of a new race type to Sydney Saturday programs.
The annual boost in stakes, unveiled by Racing NSW on Wednesday, will be spread across country and metropolitan racing.
It includes the creation of $100,000 Midway Races, which will be open to horses trained out of small to mid-sized city and metropolitan stables.
The Midway Races will be added to Saturday metropolitan programs from July 1 with eligibility determined by the number of winners a trainer has produced in the preceding 12 months, and the level of the victories.

Mark Newnham and jockey Rachel King have combined to claim their second Villiers Stakes
Trainer Mark Newnham and jockey Rachel King have combined to claim their second successive Villiers Stakes and they were thrilled to do it with stable favourite Greysful Glamour.
The five-year-old was one of the first horses through the door when Newnham took out his trainers’ licence and she has been a wonderful money-spinner.
King has also forged a dynamic relationship with her and admits she isn’t the only member of her family with a soft spot for the mare.
The Group 2 Villiers Stakes trophy stayed with Mark Newnham after the local conditioner combined with Rachel King for successive wins in the summer feature mile.
Greysful Glamour was too quick for them in controlling the race from start to finish to hold out the Godolphin duo Best Of Days and Criaderas and give Newnham and King another win after being successful with Quackerjack in 2019.
The good track was played very fast with Happy Clapper’s record in the Group 2 Villiers eclipsed while two horses went close to bettering Yes Yes Yes’ 1200m track record.
The majority of winners came from on speed but overall, it was a great day of racing with some outstanding performances.
