Farmers Market starts up for a new season

Dale Woodard The Lethbridge & District Exhibition annual Farmers’ Market is revving for another year. As the first market of the season filed into the Lethbridge Exhibition Park South Pavilion on the weekend, Lethbridge & District Exhibition Chief Executive Officer Mike Warkentin is ready to put the pedal down for another summer of helping local businesses thrive in the face of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as the market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday until Oct. 9. “I speak about the economic engine that is the farmers market, a lot of people see it as just that,” said Warkentin Saturday morning as patrons started filing in for the second day of shopping. “It’s a place to come and get your vegetables on Saturday, but this is a key cog in the ecosystem of economic development in the agricultural food chain in southern Alberta.
