Black Lives Matter Foundation reacts to Derek Chauvin verdict

Derek Chauvin verdict: Black Lives Matter responds White supremacy ‘has no place in democracy’ The BLM Foundation hopes that the guilty verdict “begins to show that white supremacy will not win, white supremacy has no place in democracy, especially one that is supposed to guarantee us our freedom to live”. The foundation reiterated that while justice was served, a guilty verdict “still does not bring our loved ones back”. Moreover, a life was lost, and his daughter will have to “grow up without him”. “In these types of trials, the criminal justice system has historically failed Black families, further permeating and validating white supremacy within institutions. Today, however, there is a small incremental step toward accountability.”

Derek Chauvin found guilty of all charges in police murder of George Floyd

Derek Chauvin found guilty of all charges in police murder of George Floyd Nearly eleven months after George Floyd was brutally murdered at the hands of Minneapolis, Minnesota police, former officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty Tuesday of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Chauvin’s conviction was made possible because then 17-year-old Darnella Frazier used her phone to record as the officer pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes, a horrific sight that exposed the brutal reality of police violence in the US for the whole world to see. If the infamous viral video had not captured the killing in excruciating detail, it is likely Floyd’s death would have been covered up by police and ruled justified by state investigators, as hundreds of others are every year.

BLM Global Network Foundation Statement on Chauvin Verdict

Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (BLMGNF), released the following statement in reaction to the guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin Trial: “In these types of trials, the criminal justice system has historically failed Black families, further permeating and validating white supremacy within institutions. Today, however, there is a small incremental step toward accountability.  We hope this guilty verdict begins to show that white supremacy will not win. White supremacy has no place in democracy, especially one that is supposed to guarantee us our freedom to live.  But let us also be clear that this still does not bring our loved ones back. We do not get George Floyd back. His daughter and family have to grow up without him. His family continues his legacy through the George Floyd Memorial  Foundation.
