Consumption advisory issued for brook, brown trout in Silver Creek, extent of forever chemical contamination unknown
Wildlife officials are asking those who regularly eat fish caught in Silver Creek to limit their consumption to once a month, over concerns of high levels of forever chemicals.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources issued the warning Thursday morning, warning that brook and brown trout caught in the Monroe County creek have been found to have high levels of PFOS, or perfluorooctane sulfonate, one of the most well-researched in the family of compounds. The chemical was found in fish harvested from the creek last year.

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) on Thursday, April 15, released improvements to the COVID-19 hospital data webpage. The update puts all COVID-19 hospital data on one page, so Wisconsinites can more easily find the information they need.
DHS says the new webpage includes two data dashboards. The COVID-19 hospital capacity dashboard has been expanded to include more information about the status of hospitals throughout Wisconsin. Additionally, data about the percent of COVID-19 cases who are health care workers has been consolidated into one dashboard.
“We are always looking for opportunities to improve the ways we display data to help us better understand the COVID-19 pandemic,” said DHS Secretary-designee Karen Timberlake. “These improvements to the COVID-19 hospital data page put important metrics into focus and add context to how trends in hospital capabilities have changed over the course of the pandemic.
