COVID-19 in Wisconsin: 72 new deaths reported, average down to 34

(FOX 9) - The state of Wisconsin reported 72 new COVID-19 deaths Tuesday, but the 7-day average reached its lowest point since Oct. 28 Tuesday, reaching 34.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says the 7-day test positivity average is down to 25.4 percent and the 7-day case increase average is 1,931.
79 percent of hospital beds are full as of Tuesday, leaving 2,264 beds open. 237 ICU patients were also reported Tuesday.

COVID-19 infections can often go undetected and be asymptomatic; laboratory-confirmed tests only represent a fraction of actual COVID-19 cases. A study from the Journal of the American Medical Association estimated that actual cases in some instances were six to 24 times greater than reported cases.

MILWAUKEE - As families return home and return to work after the holiday weekend, another possible spike in COVID-19 cases could return as well. Milwaukee announced on Monday, Dec. 28 that mobile testing for the virus is ramping up.
The first site for the mobile testing will resume Tuesday, Dec. 29
and be located at Barack Obama School (the former Custer High School) at 4300 W. Fairmount Avenue. The testing will continue there for at least two weeks.

On Monday, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported an additional 1,335 new confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state has averaged 1,934 new cases per day in the last week. Ã

The state reported 19 new deaths, far less than the seven-day average of 41 deaths. After a spike at 120 deaths in a day on Tuesday, Dec. 22, deaths have plummeted. There were 5, 4 then 9 deaths reported Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The total death toll is now 4,711.
There are 28,912 active cases (6.1%) out of 472,153 total cases since the pandemic began. The patients recovered in about 92.9% of all cases (438, 394 cases). Patients who are deemed as recovered either no longer exhibit the symptoms of COVID-19, or 30 days have passed since they tested positive.

MADISON, Wis. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services launched a new COVID-19 vaccine data page on Tuesday morning.
The page displays data such as summary metrics for allocation, shipment, and total vaccine administered, as well as a graph that displays the number of vaccines administered each day.
“We are committed to providing the public with timely COVID-19 vaccine information,” DHS Secretary-designee Andrea Palm said. “Even though we’re in the early stages of the Wisconsin COVID-19 Vaccine Program, it is important for Wisconsinites to know where we stand and highlight the unprecedented work being done by COVID-19 vaccinators across the state.”
