Audit: UW System paid out $68.5M in student refunds By Todd Richmond article MADISON, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin System paid out nearly $70 million in coronavirus-related refunds to students last year, according to a report released Tuesday. The Legislative Audit Bureau released findings that show the system paid out $68.5 million in housing and food service refunds to students after campuses closed in March as the pandemic was taking hold in Wisconsin. The report didn t say how much the system might have saved by closing down dorms and food services. State Auditor Joe Chrisman didn t respond to a message seeking further information.

It s the third day the state has reported more than 100 deaths, with the last time being Dec. 1 when 107 deaths were reported. Additionally, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) reported 187 new hospitalizations, moving the total number of hospitalizations during the pandemic to 20,355. A total of 461,015 positive cases of COVID-19 have now been confirmed in Wisconsin, with 2,403 new cases reported Tuesday.

There have been 4,545 deaths in the state, with 120 new deaths reported Tuesday by DHS officials. There are currently three patients being cared for at the Alternate Care Facility at Wisconsin State Fair Park. Confirmed: COVID-19 vaccines will be free

Share: MADISON – Today the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) issued a bulletin affirming that the COVID-19 vaccine will be provided at no cost for all Wisconsin residents. All health insurers will be prohibited from charging for the vaccine or any of the administrative costs of the vaccine and anyone without health insurance will also be able to get vaccinated at no cost. “As distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine continues, we want to ensure that every Wisconsinite knows they have access to the vaccine without any cost barriers,” said Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Mark Afable. “Regardless of you your insurance company is, or if you even have insurance coverage, Wisconsin residents can be assured that they will not be charged to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
