August 3, 2021 10:59 PM
State and city officials toured the home while it was being worked on.
The program helps fund lead abatement projects on houses that were built before 1978, the year the EPA banned lead paint for residential use.
Around 60% of houses in La Crosse were built before 1980.
If lead paint is ingested, it can lead to long-term, irreversible neurological problems, especially in children.
The Lead Policy Advisor for the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Brian Weaver says they the program focuses on getting low-income families the help they need to make their homes safe.
