Foxconn struck a new economic development deal with Wisconsin, but what exactly the Taiwan-based manufacturer plans to produce in the state remains a mystery.
In April, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation signed off on a majorly scaled-down tax incentive package for Foxconn. The amended contract comes less than three years after the company broke ground on a much-hyped campus in Racine County where it originally promised to build large LCD screens.

MADISON (WKOW) Twenty-eight school districts in Wisconsin will receive funding to help students pursue careers in manufacturing and technical fields.
Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation announced $635,000 in grants for the districts Wednesday to establish or expand local fabrication laboratory (fab lab) facilities.
“The fab labs program engages students in science, math, and engineering, allowing them to create and invent all sorts of things from robots to 3D models,” Evers said. “The skills learned in Wisconsin’s fab labs can help prepare our kids for their future, including good-paying jobs in technology and manufacturing, which are critically important for our state’s future and our economy.”
WEDC investment helps fund remodel of the Wooden Shoe
MADISON, WI. MAY 7, 2021 The Village of Lena received a $110,000 state grant to assist in expanding the Wooden Shoe Bar & Grill located in downtown Lena.
The Community Development Investment (CDI) Grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) supported the village’s plans to increase the capacity of the Wooden Shoe to capture more events and grow the restaurant’s catering business.
“One of the top priorities of WEDC is to promote substantive local development by helping communities enhance their downtown areas and establish firm foundations for ongoing economic growth,” said
Missy Hughes, secretary and CEO of WEDC. “This project will make a real difference in the Village of Lena by supporting a valuable business in the community and encouraging future investment.”
When lawmakers on the Republican-controlled Joint Finance Committee began the process of retooling Gov. Tony Evers’ budget, one item that survived was a $100 million venture capital “fund of funds.”
The proposal by Evers, a Democrat, has the support of eight former secretaries of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. and the former state Department of Commerce. The group includes five appointed by Republican governors and three by Democratic governors.
The venture capital fund “would allow Wisconsin entrepreneurs to secure needed next-step financing from in-state sources so they don’t have to look to, or move to, the coasts for capital, WEDC Secretary and CEO Missy Hughes said in a statement.
