The investment was first announced to great fanfare at the White House in July 2017, when Donald Trump was president. Wisconsin will reduce its tax credits authorized for the project from $2.85 billion to $80 million as Foxconn reduces its planned investment from $10 billion to $672 million and cuts the number of jobs planned from 13,000 to 1,454, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said in a statement.

Foxconn Deal With Gov Evers Heads To WEDC Board

Tony Evers to reduce tax breaks for Foxconn s large campus in Racine County. Evers has been seeking, for more than a year, to cut the huge financial incentives promised in 2017 by former Republican Gov. Scott Walker. Evers, a Democrat, has said Foxconn has fallen well short of job creation and investment goals for its manufacturing site in the Village of Mount Pleasant. The Associated Press quotes an unnamed source who said the new deal will reduce the potential tax breaks by billions of dollars but still leave potential incentives for the company that are worth more than $10 million.

Wisconsin amends Foxconn s contract to reflect radically smaller project

Wisconsin amends Foxconn’s contract to reflect radically smaller project Share this story After more than three years of grandiose promises and missed deadlines, Foxconn and Wisconsin have agreed to amend their contract to reflect the reality of a much-diminished project. Under the amendment, which was approved by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) today, the company will receive vastly smaller tax subsidies in exchange for greater flexibility about what business it ultimately pursues in the state. Foxconn had originally promised to build an enormous LCD factory employing 13,000 workers and costing $10 billion. With the amendment, it now says it will employ a total of 1,454 people and invest $672 million. In return, the tax subsidies the company is eligible for have been slashed, from $2.85 billion to $80 million.
