ONE MORE DEATH RECORDED EVEN AS COUNTY COVID CASES CONTINUE TO FALL

By Kevin Zimmermann May 18, 2021 | 4:07 PM Although the number of active cases of COVID-19 in Sheboygan County has declined to a level not seen since late August last year, the disease continues taking a tragic toll on Sheboygan County residents.  The latest casualty recorded during the pandemic by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health is said to be someone 80 or older, becoming the 143 victim in Sheboygan County.  Of that number, seventy-five have been 80 or older, thirty-two were in their 70s, twenty-two were in their 60s, five were in their 50s, five were in their 40s, three were in their 30s and one was between 10 and 19 years old.

8 recoveries from COVID-19 since Tuesday have more than offset the 5 new positive test results received by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, lowering the active case count here by 3 to 76 cases.  13,774 cases in all have been detected in Sheboygan County since the beginning of the pandemic.  Deaths remain unchanged since yesterday at 143, and hospitalizations are stable at 5. Progress against the coronavirus pandemic in Sheboygan County was obvious when examining the 2-week rates and trajectories compiled by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.  In the 14-day period ending May 18, the activity level was lowered to “Medium”, with a moderately high burden of 66.4 cases per 100,000 persons, and a trajectory that was 44% lower than previously calculated.  Over the past 7 days, the daily average confirmed case count was 4.  That compares favorably against the state overall, which had a “High” level of activity and a burden rate of 107.5 per 100,000
