IFFCO gas leak: Failure to learn from past incidents raises questions over Phulpur plant s functioning

Highlights 15 officials came in contact with the toxic gas. There have been five gas leak events in the past two years Prayagraj: The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) plant in Phulpur, Prayagraj witnessed a gas leakage on Tuesday (December 22) night. At least two individuals have died in this gas leakage.  The gas leakage at the IFFCO plant in Phulpur, Prayagraj has once again brought to fore the management s failure to put in place adequate safety measures to save precious human lives in case of such unfortunate incidents. 15 officials came in contact with the toxic gas. 6 officials are in critical condition and were taken to city private hospital for treatment. Rest of the officials are getting treated at the Phullpur hospital.

The deceased include assistant manager VP Singh and deputy manager Abhyanandan. The accident occurred around Tuesday midnight. The accident took place in a urea processing unit. An ammonia plunger broke which led to the leakage of ammonia gas.
