OTTAWA - Longtime Conservative MP Diane Finley has resigned her seat in the House of Commons.
Finley announced last summer that she would not seek re-election.
She told the Commons today that she is resigning, effective immediately.
Finley has represented the Ontario riding of Haldimand-Norfolk since 2004.
She held multiple cabinet posts under former prime minister Stephen Harper.
In Opposition, she was also the liaison between MPs and the national party.

If you have concerns with the Trudeau government’s bill to regulate the internet, then our fair-minded PM wants you to know that he thinks you are a tinfoil hat-wearing conspiracy theorist.
Forget the fact that the bill has been criticized from the left, right and centre, from academics, lawyers and business groups – the people against it are loons in Trudeau’s eyes.

This comes as a surprise and betrayal to a lot of people.
When running for party leader, OâToole signed the Canadian Taxpayers Federation pledge promising to scrap the carbon tax.
It read: âI will: immediately repeal the Trudeau carbon tax; and, reject any future national carbon tax or cap-and-trade scheme.â
OâTooleâs carbon tax on fuel and home heating would obviously break that promise. And OâToole is planning on imposing two carbon taxes. Yes, two.
OâToole is following Prime Minister Justin Trudeauâs plan to create a second carbon tax. Itâs tucked into the regulations for fuel standards. When companies canât meet Trudeauâs targets, they pay the tax and pass the cost on to consumers.
