Saskatoon homeowners could be able to begin applying for city-funded loans to cover the cost of energy-efficient home upgrades and retrofits as early as late summer.

If approved by city council later this month, the program which will provide loans of up to $60,000, repayable through property taxes over terms as long as 20 years could be up and running by August, the committee heard.
Coun. Sarina Gersher, who chairs the committee, said the program will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create jobs without creating up-front costs for residential property owners, who will realize “tangible” savings on utility bills.
