A few Republican House members dissatisfied with Rep. Elise Stefanik s voting record are eyeing a different potential candidate to replace Rep. Liz Cheney in the caucus s leadership.
Rep. Mike Johnson is reportedly a favorite among some lawmakers who are hoping to replace Cheney with a more conservative alternative than Stefanik, who hails from New York. Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, is favored by Reps. Bob Good and Madison Cawthorn, and several other Republicans would support him should he vie for the position, a source on Capitol Hill told the

The House Republican Conference met today and ousted conference chairwoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) from her leadership position. Her almost certain replacement will be Representative Elise Stefanik (R-NY). Cheney has no one else to blame, because this is thanks to a series of self-inflicted wounds.
Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, has been a solid conservative, but her ability to lead the conference was badly damaged by her open attacks on President Donald Trump and her Republican colleagues who expressed concerns over fraud in the 2020 election. And while such attacks certainly make her the darling of Leftmedia talkingheads (who adore any Republican who disparages her fellow Republicans), she has created deep animosity toward her in the conference.

After weeks of speculation, Liz Cheney was ousted as the Republican House Conference Chair.
Cheney refused to back down from her criticism of Trump for his role in the Capitol riot.
Over the past few months, she has emphasized her commitment to the rule of law no matter who occupies the White House.
GOP Rep. Liz Cheney, who was first elected to represent Wyoming s at-large congressional district in 2016, has long compiled a voting record that reflects her conservative political beliefs.
In 2017, she voted for former President Donald Trump s signature Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which cut the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21%.
Rep. Stefanik Makes Bid to Succeed Cheney as House GOP Conference Chair
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) announced she is officially running to be chair of the House Republican Conference, the No. 3 position among House GOP members, after Republicans voted Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) out on Wednesday morning.
Former President Donald Trump, House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), and House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) have said they would support Stefanik’s bid. The New York Republican, notably, backed some of Trump’s post-Nov. 3 election claims and mounted a defense of Trump during his first impeachment inquiry.
“I know firsthand the discipline and message it takes to fight back against the biased national media and the entire Democrat and Far-Left infrastructure,” Stefanik said in a Wednesday letter, touting her leadership abilities ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. “I know what it takes to flip a district and grow the Republican Party.”
