Unlikely partners Pelosi and Cheney team up for Jan 6 probe into Capitol riot

WASHINGTON When Nancy Pelosi raised a glass to Liz Cheney, it was the most unlikely of toasts. Democratic lawmakers and the Republican congresswoman were gathered in the House speaker s office as the group prepared for the first session of the committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol. Pelosi spoke of the solemn responsibility before them and raised her water glass to Cheney, a daughter of the former vice president and the sole Republican in the room. Let us salute Liz for her courage, she said, according to a person familiar with the gathering who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the private meeting.

Brooks and Capehart on Jan 6 committee, infrastructure, budget, vaccine hesitancy

It s always so good to see you. Let s start with the fireworks this week, David. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi surprised, I think, a lot of people by saying, no, I m not going to accept two of the five Republicans appointed to this January 6 select committee. And then, in turn, you had Kevin McCarthy, the House minority leader, saying, well, if you are going to do that, I m going to pull the whole group. What did you make of all this? Does it move the process forward? What do you think? (LAUGHTER) No, it s round 947 of stupidity in Congress, I guess.

Janet Yellen Warns Of Irreparable Harm If Congress Doesn t Raise The Debt Ceiling

Font Size: Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned congressional leaders Friday that failing to raise the debt ceiling would risk “irreparable harm to the U.S. economy and the livelihoods of all Americans.” In a letter, Yellen said that she did not know how long the Treasury Department could prevent the U.S. from defaulting on its debt, which could carry catastrophic economic consequences. The debt ceiling is set to expire on Aug. 1. “In recent years Congress has addressed the debt limit through regular order, with broad bipartisan support,” Yellen wrote. “I respectfully urge Congress to protect the full faith and credit of the United States by acting as soon as possible.”
