Alternate School Programme is about Nigeria s future — Humanitarian Affairs Minister

Fri May 07 2021 The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouk, in this interview, explains how the recently launched Alternate School Programme will reduce the number of out-of-school children in the country among other things.   The launch of the Alternate School Programme has reopened conversations on the increasing number of out-of-school children in Nigeria. What is this programme meant to achieve? It’s an intervention programme focused on providing education in a flexible way to out-of-school children (OOSC). It also provides them with social investment programme benefits. The Alternate School Programme (ASP) also targets the humanitarian and social challenges faced by the OOSC.

How FG plans to implement the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS)

Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council last week approved the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS), a scheme they say will accelerate the reduction in poverty through economic growth, social protection programs, and others. The FEC also announced the establishment of a Nigeria Investment and Growth Fund to invest in commercially viable projects in priority sectors that will promote growth and innovation, enhance local value addition, and create employment. The NPRGS was necessitated by the rise in poverty and inflation which has caused hardships for Nigerians.
