My reverse culture shock: Returning to the UK after a decade in Dubai

Life as an ex-expat Two years on and now loving my UK life, I realise that those first few months I was experiencing the phenomenon of ‘reverse culture shock’. I read up on the little-known topic and discovered that experts say that like expatriation, repatriation has its psychological phases, almost like a grieving process, that come as a surprise. It certainly did for me. It’s not just feelings of loneliness and homesickness for your foreign experiences that cause a disassociation with ‘home’, it’s the daily practices of your home country that you become out of touch with. Aston Park: City clears another homeless camp Staff reports    In line with its April 9 announcement to evict homeless people in two encampments that have popped up in recent weeks, the city of Asheville cleared Aston Park on April 16, according to a press release. Church charity ShareFest set for April 24-25

Next weekend, April 24-25, will see the return of one of the Western Slope’s most significant religious events: Share- Fest. ShareFest is an annual charitable initiative by dozens of churches, almost all of which are in Mesa County, to serve the county’s most vulnerable or eldest residents. This year, more than 20 churches are participating. “We go out in the community and show the love of Jesus by serving the people who are in the community,” said Share- Fest Steering Committee Chairperson Debe Colby. “We try to focus on elderly people, disabled people and underserved people. They do projects such as raking yards and washing windows and cleaning flowerbeds. We start swamp coolers for people who can’t afford to have someone do that. . It’s a weekend where we take the time to show the community that we care and that God loves them.”
