Lorenzana tested positive for coronavirus and began the mandatory 14-day quarantine for COVID-19 patients on April 6. On Wednesday, he showed the result of his reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test result.
In a social media post on Twitter, Lorenzana showed his RT-PCR test result and said: “Yesterday, I got a call that I was COVID-19 positive. Today, I got the official result.”
Based on the RT-PCR test, the 72-year old Lorenzana was tested at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center on Tuesday, April 6. The test result showed that “SARS-COV-2 viral RNA,” the causative agent of COVID-19, was present in the sample obtained from Lorenzana.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 2) As new COVID-19 cases continue to surge, hospitals in Metro Manila, the pandemic epicenter that remains under enhanced community quarantine, are quickly running out of beds for patients who require intensive care.
Data from the Department of Health as of March 31 showed 602 beds or 76% of the combined 792 in intensive care units for COVID-19 patients in the National Capital Region are occupied, putting hospitals in the region at “high risk” level. Medical facilities which have reached 70% to 80% occupancy rate fall under this risk category.
With several hospitals approaching breaking point, a major concern is where do people go for help?

Alan Peter Cayetano is calling for a “thorough and fair” investigation into reports that government officials, including a colleague in the House of Representatives, who allegedly violated the prioritizatization mechanism in the vaccination program for novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a media interview on Thursday, March 4, Cayetano appealed to his fellow government officials to respect the vaccination prioritization listing for COVID-19 inoculation, stressing that there should be no “VIPs” in the COVID 19 pandemic.
Cayetano lamented that as reports indicated that VIP’s were able to go ahead of others in the priority list, local government units are still not assured access to COVID-19.

PASAY CITY, Mar. 5 After his initial visit on February 25, the Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go held a series of activities at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City to provide more assistance and highlight the contributions of the frontline medical workers in the fight against COVID-19.
“Sa mga frontliners ng Veterans Memorial Medical Center, maraming salamat sa inyong serbisyo sa panahong ito. Nakikiusap ako, konting tiis lang po. Dahil kayo ang mas nakakaalam sa trabahong ‘to, kayo ang inaasahan ng bayan sa ating laban sa COVID-19,” Go said in a video message.
“Bilang Committee Chair on Health sa Senado, nandidito ako handang sumuporta, makinig at tumulong sa inyo. Bukas ang aming opisina, pwede niyong lapitan any time. Tutulungan namin kayo sa abot ng aming makakaya,” he continued.

The Philippines rolled out the vaccination program on March 1 with the 600,000 CoronaVac doses donated by the Chinese government. Of the 600,000 doses, 189,600 have already been delivered, including 12,000 sent to Davao City and 7,200 to Cebu City.
“Vaccination activities in those cities are expected to commence today,” Nograles said.
According to the Palace official, the government already has the data of the “master-listed population” in the country’s 17 regions.
‘As of yesterday, the master-listed population stands at 222,783 and the vaccines shall be administered to them in 243 vaccination sites in all 17 regions of the country– 94 sites across Luzon, 18 in the Visayas, and 131 in Mindanao,” Nograles said.
