PHOENIX (KVOA) - More than 200,000 counterfeit 3M N95 surgical masks were seized by Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the last 45 days.
According to a release shared Tuesday, federal officers assigned to the Phoenix Sky Harbor discovered counterfeit masks in late October while examining imported commercial shipments.
About 2,000 more counterfeit masks were seized in early December after HSI and the Veterans Affairs Office of the Inspector General conducted a consensual examination at a small business. Officials said the business reportedly was conducting transactions with a related company that was under investigation for counterfeit masks.
