Brooke County went for gold Friday, but not in a way the county wanted.
The county fell to gold on the Department of Health and Human Resources COVID-19 alert map after sitting at yellow the last few days. Hancock and Marshall counties remained at yellow, the second-safest category on the DHHR map, while Ohio County stayed at green, the safest category.

MOUNDSVILLE Two deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported out of Marshall County, both hospitalized at the time of their death.
Two men, one 89-years-old and one 53-years-old, reportedly died between Saturday and Monday night, when the Marshall County Health Department released its daily announcement.
A third,a 53-year-old woman, reportedly died Tuesday.
Marshall County reported 16 new positive cases and three probable cases on Monday, and an additional four new cases, and three probable cases Tuesday.
The county health department referred to the state Department of Health and Human Services website for its latest totals, which as of Tuesday morning, were 2,396 confirmed cases, 848 probable cases and 74 related deaths since the pandemic began.
