Shorts Program Family Voices Marks Black History Month | Arts & Entertainment

The Woods Hole Film Festival continues its 2021 virtual season series with the shorts program “Family Voices,” Thursday, March 4, through Sunday, March 7. “Family Voices” is a program of short films presented in collaboration with the Woods Hole Diversity Initiative and its 2021 Black History Month events. The program will feature six short films by up-and-coming filmmakers. “Family Voices” offers snapshots of family life through the eyes of Black parents and children in recognition of the 2021 Black History Month theme: The Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity. The festival will host a live online line question and answer session with the filmmakers on Saturday, March 6, at 7 PM.

Woods Hole Plans Events To Celebrate Black History

The Woods Hole Black History Month Committee is celebrating 40 years in Woods Hole in 2021. Four virtual events are planned during February as part of Black History Month. All events are free, however, those interested in participating must register in advance on the Woods Hole Diversity Initiative website, where further information is available about each of the events. The national theme for Black History Month is “The Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity.” The celebration will begin at noon Thursday, February 4, with a panel discussion titled “40 Years of Black History Month in Woods Hole: The Journey and the Future.” The discussion will be moderated by Ambrose Jearld Jr., a charter member of the committee. Mr. Jearld retired in 2016 as a fisheries biologist after a 38-year NOAA Fisheries career at the Northeast Fisheries Science Center in Woods Hole.
