COVID-19: Kerala to set up dedicated oxygen war rooms

Thiruvananthapuram: Amid a spike in COVID-19 numbers, Kerala is setting up dedicated oxygen war rooms at the district and state levels. Taking to twitter Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday said that dedicated oxygen war rooms will function with representatives of the police, health, transportation, disaster management and Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO). Dedicated Oxygen War Rooms will function at State and District levels with representatives of Police, Health, Transportation, Disaster Management and PESO. O2 stock is being monitored in the Districts by Collectors. O2 module will be included in Covid Jagratha portal, said Kerala CM in a tweet.

Kerala health minister KK Shailaja THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many states in the country continue to grapple with oxygen shortage, the Kerala government has said it has a reserve of 510 metric ton of the life-saving gas at production centres post-delivery. The government is now mulling the possibilities of increasing the reserve stock upto 1000 MT to meet any adverse situations, authorities said. In the wake of the number of Covid-19 cases crossing the 30,000 mark in the southern state, health minister KK Shailaja convened a special high-level meeting on Tuesday to review the availability of oxygen. In view of the grim situation, it has been decided to set up audit committees in the state, district and hospital levels for the effective utilisation of the available oxygen in the state, she said.

April 28, 2021 To expand oxygen buffer stock in order to be ready for any emergency Kerala, which is claimed to be the only oxygen-surplus State, has decided to appoint oxygen audit committees in all hospitals at State- and district levels to ensure optimum use of the available stock estimated to be 220 mt domestically, while the demand in the context of Covid is 100 mt. Various oxygen production plants combined are estimated to have a buffer stock of 510 mt, which is now sought to be expanded to 1,000 mt in order that the State is ready for any future eventuality arising from the phenomenal jump in active cases by more than 30,000 for the first time on Tuesday.
