Ventura County is in the process of filing lawsuits against 18 businesses 14 gyms and four restaurants for operating indoors in violation of Coronavirus-related public health orders. [VC Star]
On Jan. 5, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to direct county attorneys to sue House of Gains in Port Hueneme, Colosseum Bootcamp in Oxnard, two Ventura locations of Anytime Fitness, The Pizza Cookery in Thousand Oaks and one location each of Fitness 19 in Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley. Ventura County filed suits against those businesses on Jan. 8.
Then last Tuesday, the board of supervisor voted 4-1 to sue Allison’s Country Cafe in Ventura, Mrs. Olson’s Coffee Hut in Oxnard, Good Morning Cafe in Camarillo, Gold’s Gym in Thousand Oaks, the Oxnard and Camarillo locations of Fitness 19 and four locations of Anytime Fitness two in the Conejo Valley and one each in Camarillo and Simi Valley. Ventura man arrested for stolen vehicle, possession of tear gas
VENTURA, Calif. - Ventura police arrested a man after he was found driving a stolen vehicle on Saturday while in possession of tear gas.
Around 5:34 p.m., an officer located a stolen vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of Santa Paula that day, traveling in the area of Poli Street and Cedar Street.
The officer pulled over the car at East Prospect Street and Ventura Avenue and arrested the driver.
The Ventura man is facing charges for unlawful taking of a vehicle and possession of tear gas.
Review of the Ventura County Superior Court website shows the man has been previously arrested for the unlawful taking of a vehicle and possession of tear gas as well as burglary.
California law expanded the public’s access to police records in 2019, but one court ruling has exempted the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
(CN) Police records and privacy were on the minds of a three-judge appellate panel on Thursday as they listened to attorneys argue about the purpose of a California law that expanded the state’s public records law.
Over 400 police agencies in California found themselves under a new law in 2019 that made available non-confidential records on misconduct, use of excessive force and police shootings. Numerous police unions fought to limit the law in court. They argued the law should not be applied to police records created before the law went into effect.
Ventura County firefighter sentenced for lying to obtain disability benefits
VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - A former Ventura County firefighter was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 24 months of felony probation on Thursday after pleading guilty to felony workers’ compensation fraud.
Perry Adam Lieber, 34, of Santa Barbara admitted to creating false material statements in order to receive disability benefits that he was not entitled to during a workers’ compensation claim with the Ventura County Fire Department.
As a result, Victim agencies York Risk Services and the County of Ventura
sustained about $186,082 in losses.
In addition to the jail sentence, Lieber was immediately ordered to pay $100,000 in victim restitution and $30,000 in fines.

Ventura, CA (WorkersCompensation.com) - Acting District Attorney Cheryl M. Temple announced today that Perry Adam Lieber (DOB 4/23/86), of Santa Barbara, was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 24 months of felony probation after pleading guilty to felony workers compensation fraud in violation of Insurance Code section 1871.4(a).
Lieber previously admitted that he made false material statements for the purpose of obtaining disability and other benefits to which he was not entitled during a prior workers compensation claim with the Ventura County Fire Department. Victim agencies York Risk Services and the County of Ventura sustained losses in excess of $186,082.
