Officials said the incident resulted from human error. It was an accident, said Patti Blair, public information officer for the college district. It was just a misdial. Unfortunately, that happens.
The system worked properly, she added, although the misdial was not intended as a test.
Ventura County Sheriff s Capt. Darin Hendren said his agency received a call from campus police letting them know about the false alarm. The sheriff s office is contracted to provide police services in the city of Moorpark.
There are currently no classes on campus, Hendren said. Campus police nevertheless went through the property and checked everything anyway, he said.

Nationwide Search Leads To Hiring Of Current Interim President
A South Coast college has a new president who’s already a familiar face on the campus. Dr. Julius Sokenu has been selected as Moorpark College’s new president.
He’s been with the college for 14 years, and has been its interim president since 2019. Sokenu has been a community college educator for nearly three decades, and joined Moorpark College as a dean in 2007.
He was selected for the post by the Ventura County Community College District’s Board of Trustees following a nationwide search. The decision still has to go through the formality of contract approval.
