Man sentenced 22 years for 2017 shooting death in Oxnard
An Oxnard man has been sentenced to 22 years in state prison for the fatal shooting of another Oxnard man in 2017.
Jonathan Zambrano, now 31, had pleaded guilty last month to voluntary manslaughter. He also admitted to personally using a firearm during the shooting, according to the Ventura County District Attorney s Office. He was sentenced Friday in Ventura County Superior Court.
The victim, Albert Salazar, was 24.
On the night of July 19, 2017, both men were standing outside a house in the 1300 block of West Guava Street when Zambrano pulled out a gun and shot Salazar once, prosecutors said. Salazar was driven by a private party to the Oxnard Police Department parking lot, where first aid was provided until he was transported by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center. He later died at the hospital. Zambrano was arrested three days later.
